Receiver's disbursement journal (Land Law 1849), 1849-1876.

Lists disbursements by the receiver of public money at the land office in Chillicothe. Each entry includes date, amount of authorized disbursement, amount spent for incidental expenses, amount spent for salaries and commissions, and balance due the federal government. Each category of expenditures includes a description of transactions. Some entries also include amount of compensation for depositing.

An act of Congress dated May 10, 1800, established federal land offices in Steubenville, Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Marietta to facilitate the sale of land in the Northwest Territory. The last federal land office in Ohio at Chillicothe closed in 1876 and all federal land office records were transferred to the Auditor of State's Office in 1877.
